Een zelfbouw radio, dat leverde veel plezier op in mijn jeugd, met de Pionier zonder solderen een radio in elkaar zetten.

Helaas is de Pionier al jaren niet meer leverbaar. Gelukkig zijn er nog steeds mogelijkheden om een zelfbouw radio cadeau te geven aan een beginnende elektronicus.

Model Blauw kristalradio

Via de site kristalradio.nl is een kristalradio voor zelfbouw te verkrijgen die erg lijkt op de Philips Pionier 1. Spoel, germanium diode, oortelefoon de klassieke schakeling voor een kristalradio. Te bouwen zonder solderen. Prijs Euro 4,50 en dat is een koopje.

Conrad Retro radio

Een bouwpakket van Conrad. Wel solderen vereist, en wat geavanceerder dan een kristalradio. Dit ontwerp lijkt het meest op de Philips Pionier 3. De verpakking is de uiteindelijke behuizing, net als bij de Pionier 3. Geen karton, dus een stukje steviger. De techniek is ook een simpele middengolf ontvanger, een ferrietstaaf, een variabele draaicondensator, een middengolf IC TA7642, en een eentransistor eindtrap. Grappig is de paneelmeter, een variant op het afstemoog!

I spent a nice Saturday afternoon doing a puzzle. Now are the days of me laying jigsaw puzzles for fun long ago, in fact, I don’t like the tension at the end of all the hard work that one piece is missing.

This one is a bit different, a jigsaw puzzle made by Philips (1974 I assume due to the writing on the envelope) of the front of my beloved EE8 electronic engineer kit.

172 pieces, so even I could endure the tension and finish it. Of course one piece went missing and turned up underneath the carton plate.

So here it is: the result of my hard labor! And a unique item in the EE collection!

New kits keep coming in! Now I found again a electronic learning aid with a different twist: The Braun Lectron. With this system the circuits are build up of blocks that are connected with little magnets.

On the website you can now admire two new kits in my collection:

• The Philips X40 kit, only published in the UK in the 70ties
• The ITT Elektronik Experimenters kit, for teaching on schools.

These two kits are not the usual Philips type of kits I have collected. The construction mechanism is quite different, more the pin to pin with cables (ITT) or fixed connections (X40) . The X40 has the usual collection of fun electronics, from alarms to radio. The ITT kit is more serious and aimed at studenst learning the basics of electronics. Of course it is mounted in a robust box. made of wood, compared to the usual cardboard/ paper box for the X40.

For the second time the dutch magazine Elektuur (Elektor as it is called in other countries) has mentioned my website in an article devoted to retro electronics.

In the July/August issue, mostly about robotics, an article is devoted to Philips EE-Bouwdozen. In the Links my webpage on the ME1200, the first Philips Mechanical Engineer, is mentioned.

The previous time was in this article, about the Elektuur Junior Computer, in the january 2005 issue.
